Explore Bryce

About

This course is aimed at anyone who wishes to learn how to use Bryce effectively and easily as well as anyone who wishes to use it as a reference. Bryce is a 3D graphics program which specializes in creating and rendering landscapes and terrains. Usually this capability is restricted to high end software packages that tend to be quite expensive. This is not the case with Bryce since DAZ 3D - the company that now own Bryce - have released it for free. Although it is released free of charge, Bryce is a very powerful package capable of creating some stunning scenes. With practice it is possible to create anything you wish with it. The image opposite was created using Bryce 5.5. Bryce 5.5 can be downloaded from the DAZ 3D website and while Bryce is the only product required to render the scenes, it is helpful to have an image editing program on the side for some of the more advanced topics. Paint Shop Pro or PhotoImpact are fine. If these aren't available then you can make do perfectly well with MS Paint. Surprisingly for a graphics package Bryce isn't very memory hungry which is good news if you're running an older system. You should be able to run it comfortably with 356MB RAM. On the downside it is very processor intensive whilst rendering and can take over an hour to render complicated scenes and terrains. A dual or quad processor system is definitely an advantage here.

Discover Emacs

About

GNU Emacs has a reputation as being the most powerful programmers' editor available, but this power doesn't come without a cost. The reason for this power is that the language in which a vast majority of Emacs is written (called Emacs Lisp, which is often shortend to ELisp) is available for writing extensions at run time, meaning that almost any aspect of Emacs behaviour can be modified dynamically while the user is working. The drawback to ELisp is that it's a whole new language to learn and, for most developers, follows unfamiliar paradigms. At the moment, This course will assume that you have Emacs installed, and are comfortable performing basic editing within Emacs (loading files, modifying text, etc.) It will also assume that you are interested in using Emacs as a programming editor / IDE, and are familiar with basic programming concepts. In due course This course may be expanded to include more complete beginner material, but this is not currently a priority.

Learn FreeMind

About

Freemind is a program used to create mind maps. Freemind is Free Open Source Software and is currently in version 0.9.0 RC6 on which this article will be based. This course aims to be an overview of how to use FreeMind and what features are available. I will describe how to access functions with keyboard shortcuts when I know of them because that way the program is useful for taking notes in class and is generally faster to work with. Please note that keyboard shortcuts differ on different platforms. I am on an Apple MacBook which means I have a key. Where-ever I write , I believe you can substitute it for the key if you are running Linux or Windows. To install FreeMind on your system you point your browser to their Download page, which currently will tell you that the latest version is 0.8.1*, and there you will find detailed installation instructions. At the bottom of the page you will find a link to the "unstable" version, which is what I will be using. If you decide on the older version, some functionality might differ or be missing. When the installation is done and you have started the program you are presented with the main view, containing an empty mind map.

Learn ICEM CFD

About

ANSYS ICEM CFD is a popular proprietary software package which provides advanced geometry/mesh generation as well as mesh diagnostics and repair functions useful for in-depth analysis. Its design is centered around aerospace, automotive and electrical engineering applications with a specific focus on computational fluid dynamics and structural analysis. [1] The ability to accurately create a computational grids about geometrically complex configurations is becoming increasingly important in the analysis world. [2] ANSYS ICEM CFD offers mesh generation with the capacity to compute meshes with various different structures depending on the users requirements. It is a powerful and highly manipulative software which allows the user to generate grids of high resolution.[3][4] This is a requirement as mesh generation is an inherently geometry dependent problem meaning there is no singular meshing method which can be used for every problem. ICEM CFD allows the following different types of grid structures to be created[5]: A simplified overview of the meshing methodology provides an indication of how to begin the meshing procedure with the different stages shown. ICEM CFD provides a user interface which includes several components to make mesh generation intuitive and easy to use once its full capabilities are understood. The user interface contains a complete environment to create, modify and manage computational grids:

Learn Potopt Molecular Dynamics Suite

About

Potopt is molecular dynamics software implemented in ISO C11 and utilizing MPI for parallel processing. This manual documents a pre-release version of the software, made available at 2014-02-26. The details of both the implementation and user interface are still not settled, and are likely to change significantly before the first release. Potopt is an ISO C11- and MPI-based (tested with GCC 4.8.2 and Open MPI 1.6.5, respectively) code that solves equations of motion for a system of (dimensionless) particles with user-specified masses, initial locations and velocities. The equations are based on the Morse potential, with parameters specified for each interacting pair of particles (which may mean the ones sharing a chemical bond, or otherwise related.) The -n N parameter given to mpirun(1) specifies the number of processes to run. Refer to the documentation on the MPI implementation used for more information. The Split argument is currently mandatory and is a whitespace-delimited string of positive integer values specifying the number of particles to simulate with each process. Naturally, these numbers should sum up to a total number of particles in the system considered, such as 22 for modelling the 22-atom graphene sample system below within a single process (-n 1), '11 11' for two processes (-n 2), '7 8 7' for three (-n 3), etc.

Discover SAP ERP

About

SAP® ERP, previously known as SAP R/3®, is a leading enterprise resource planning software developed by SAP AG in Germany. As of early 2013, it is used by about corporate 50,000 customers across 25 industries, 37 languages, and 45 localizations.[1] The strength of SAP is its online integration across key business functions, such as procurement, sales, banking and accounting. As soon as a warehouse clerk confirms a goods receipt from a vendor, it is immediately shown on a general ledger account. And when the vendor's invoice is entered, SAP automatically compares its price and quantity against the ordered and received ones and based on the result, it either releases it or blocks it against payment. One set of master data (e.g., vendor and customer list, catalogue of materials etc.) is used throughout the system, reducing the need for duplicate maintenance. If you are authorized, it is easy for you to "click through" from one object (e.g., accounting document) to all related information (e.g., original vendor invoice, purchase order, goods receipt, vendor and article master, payment document). This in turn implies, that: I want to learn more about SAP ERP. Where to start?

Explore Rwa

About

Description

this course holds the code to a new kind of RNN model for processing sequential data. The model computes a recurrent weighted average (RWA) over every previous processing step. With this approach, the model can form direct connections anywhere along a sequence. This stands in contrast to traditional RNN architectures that only use the previous processing step. Because the RWA can be computed as a running average, it does not need to be completely recomputed with each processing step. The numerator and denominator can be saved from the previous step. Consequently, the model scales like that of other RNN models such as the LSTM model. In each folder, the RWA model is evaluated on a different task. The performance of the RWA model is compared against a LSTM model. The RWA is found to train considerably faster on most tasks by at least a factor of five. As the sequences become longer, the RWA model scales even better. See the manuscript listed above for the details about each result. Note: The RWA model has failed to yield competitive results on Natural Language Problems.

Know DdiMon

About

DdiMon

Introduction DdiMon is a hypervisor performing inline hooking that is invisible to a guest (ie, any code other than DdiMon) by using extended page table (EPT). DdiMon is meant to be an educational tool for understanding how to use EPT from a programming perspective for research. To demonstrate it, DdiMon installs the invisible inline hooks on the following device driver interfaces (DDIs) to monitor activities of the Windows built-in kernel patch protection, a.k.a. PatchGuard, and hide certain processes without being detected by PatchGuard. Those stealth shadow hooks are hidden from guest's read and write memory operations and exposed only on execution of the memory. Therefore, they are neither visible nor overwritable from a guest, while they function as ordinal hooks. It is accomplished by making use of EPT enforcing a guest to see different memory contents from what it would see if EPT is not in use. This technique is often called memory shadowing.

About

YAGO

YAGO is a large semantic knowledge base, derived from Wikipedia, WordNet, WikiData, GeoNames, and other data sources. Currently, YAGO knows more than 17 million entities (like persons, organizations, cities, etc.) and contains more than 150 million facts about these entities. YAGO is special in several ways:

  • The accuracy of YAGO has been manually evaluated, proving a confirmed accuracy of 95% (*). Every relation is annotated with its confidence value.
  • YAGO combines the clean taxonomy of WordNet with the richness of the Wikipedia category system, assigning the entities to more than 350,000 classes.
  • YAGO is anchored in time and space. YAGO attaches a temporal dimension and a spatial dimension to many of its facts and entities.
  • In addition to taxonomy, YAGO has thematic domains such as "music" or "science" from WordNet Domains.
  • YAGO extracts and combines entities and facts from 10 Wikipedias in different languages. YAGO is jointly developed at the DBWeb group at Télécom ParisTech University, the Databases and Information Systems group at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, and Ambiverse.

Fundamentals of Oozie

About

Apache Oozie

What is Oozie Oozie is an extensible, scalable and reliable system to define, manage, schedule, and execute complex Hadoop workloads via web services. More specifically, this includes:

  • XML-based declarative framework to specify a job or a complex workflow of dependent jobs.
  • Support different types of job such as Hadoop Map-Reduce, Pipe, Streaming, Pig, Hive and custom java applications.
  • Workflow scheduling based on frequency and/or data availability.
  • Monitoring capability, automatic retry and failure handing of jobs.
  • Extensible and pluggable architecture to allow arbitrary grid programming paradigms.
  • Authentication, authorization, and capacity-aware load throttling to allow multi-tenant software as a service. Oozie Overview Oozie is a server based Workflow Engine specialized in running workflow jobs with actions that run Hadoop Map/Reduce and Pig jobs. Oozie is a Java Web-Application that runs in a Java servlet-container. For the purposes of Oozie, a workflow is a collection of actions (i.e. Hadoop Map/Reduce jobs, Pig jobs) arranged in a control dependency DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph). "control dependency" from one action to another means that the second action can't run until the first action has completed. Oozie workflows definitions are written in hPDL (a XML Process Definition Language similar to JBOSS JBPM jPDL). Oozie workflow actions start jobs in remote systems (i.e. Hadoop, Pig). Upon action completion, the remote systems callback Oozie to notify the action completion, at this point Oozie proceeds to the next action in the workflow. Oozie workflows contain control flow nodes and action nodes. Control flow nodes define the beginning and the end of a workflow ( start , end and fail nodes) and provide a mechanism to control the workflow execution path ( decision , fork and join nodes). Action nodes are the mechanism by which a workflow triggers the execution of a computation/processing task. Oozie provides support for different types of actions: Hadoop map-reduce, Hadoop file system, Pig, SSH, HTTP, eMail and Oozie sub-workflow. Oozie can be extended to support additional type of actions. Oozie workflows can be parameterized (using variables like ${inputDir} within the workflow definition). When submitting a workflow job values for the parameters must be provided. If properly parameterized (i.e. using different output directories) several identical workflow jobs can concurrently.
